WASHINGTON, D.C. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has awarded the states three Republican U.S. Representatives its Guardian of Small Business awarded for their votes during the 107th Congress.
U.S. Reps. Christopher Shays (R-4), Robert Simmons (R-2) and Nancy Johnson (R-6) were cited by the group, which tallied 13 key small-business votes in the House during the 2001 and 2002 sessions. On issues ranging from health care to regulatory and tax relief, Simmons and Shays sided with the NFIB on 100 percent of votes, while Johnson earned a 92-percent voting record.
Overall, the NFIB will award Guardian honors to 49 senators and 217 representatives who voted favorably on its key small-business issues at least 70 percent of the time.
