HAMDEN Duncan Fletcher of Hamden has been named program manager and director of the new Professional Athlete Transition Institute (PATI) in Quinnipiac Universitys School of Business. QUs newest institute was formed this summer to serve the National Hockey League Alumni Associations Life After Hockey program launched earlier this month at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ont. The program is a partnership formed by the HR firm of Drake Beam Morin, the NHL, NHL Alumni Association, NHL Players Association and Quinnipiac. The program assists players in pursuing new careers after their retirement from professional hockey.
PATI counsels players on how to attain the necessary skills to pursue their career choice after they retire from the NHL. If a player wants to become a financial planner, for example, the institute recommends finance courses or workshops and determines what examinations must be taken for certification. If the player wants to earn a bachelors or graduate degree in financing, the counselor recommends colleges or universities and helps facilitate the application process and registering for classes. The adviser helps determine degree requirements, including the necessary number of credits, entrance exams and prerequisite courses.
