Elizabeth Monz has been elected the new executive director of the Arts Council of Greater New Haven Inc., replacing veteran Frances T. (Bitsie) Clark, who retired in June. Monz has worked at the Arts Council as director of the Regional Cultural Plan since September 2000. She previously served as director of public relations and development at the Creative Arts Workshop and has 12 years of marketing experience in the corporate sector. She was graduated from Franklin & Marshall College and holds a master1s degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
Edward M. Alwood has been appointed associate professor of journalism at Quinnipiac University. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina/Chapel Hill. Most recently he was an assistant professor at Temple University. Prior to teaching, Alwood was a network correspondent and anchor for CNN in Washington D.C., where he specialized in financial stories especially related to the White House and Supreme Court.
Jan van Dokkum has joined United Technologies Corp. as president of UTC Power. He previously served as president and chief executive officer of Siemens Power Transmission & Distribution. He succeeds Geraud Darnis, who was named president of UTC1s Carrier Corp. last year. UTC Power develops and markets distributed power-generation products, including fuel cells, for use in commercial transportation and light industrial businesses, institutions and office buildings. Having earned his bachelor1s and master1s degrees in electrical engineering from the Institute of Technology, Albertus Magnus of Brea, the Netherlands, van Dokkum serves as chairman of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association1s Power Equipment Division.
Additional Quinnipiac appointments include Peter DePietro, named assistant professor of e-media. DePietro holds a master1s degree from Tisch School of the Arts Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University. He previously taught at the New School University in New York and was producing artistic director of the Manhattan Repertory Co. Marjorie Rosen has been named visiting assistant professor of public relations. Rosen holds a master1s degree in television and film from New York University. The author of Popcorn Venus, the first non-fiction book to examine the influence of movies on women1s self-image, she has written for numerous national publications. Andrew B. Schwartz was named visiting assistant professor of public relations. He holds a master1s degree in advertising from the University of Illinois. Previously he was a public relations consultant and director of public relations for Aetna Financial Services.
Rich DiPalma has been hired as a residential sales agent in Calcagni Associates Real Estate1s North Haven office. A full-time Realtor for 28 years, DiPalma is a graduate of the Realtors Institute and is a Certified Residential Specialist.
Edward Generous of Cheshire has joined New England Motor Freight as vice president of national accounts at the Meriden terminal. Generous, who has 15 years of transportation and marketing experience, previously was vice president of group sales and marketing for Yellow Transportation. A graduate of the University of Hartford, he also attended the New England Motor Rate Bureau School of Transportation in Burlington, Mass.
Weinstein & Anastasio, P.C. has promoted Joseph Maisto of Cheshire to in-charge accountant. A graduate of Cornell University, Maisto joined the Woodbridge firm as a staff accountant in 2000.
R. Lawrence Moss, M.D., has joined the staff at Yale-New Haven Children1s Hospital (YNHCH) as surgeon-in-chief. Moss is a general, thoracic and laparoscopic pediatric surgeon and an associate professor of pediatrics and surgery at the Yale University School of Medicine. He joins YNHCH from the Stanford University School of Medicine and Packard Children1s Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif., where he was associate professor of surgery and pediatrics and surgical director of the pediatric intensive care unit and the ECMO program. In addition, he was chief of pediatric surgery and surgical director of the pediatric intensive care unit at Santa Clara Valley (Calif.) Medical Center. Moss attended Yale University and was graduated from Stanford University with a degree in English literature. He received his M.D. from the University of California/San Diego and was a surgical resident at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle.
Maura M. Cochran and Sandra K. Fitzpatrick were named co-chairpersons of the Connecticut/Westchester chapter of CoreNet Global. The 120-member chapter is part of an organization of 6,000 business leaders engaged in the strategic management of real estate for major corporations worldwide. Cochran is a principal of Hartford-based Bartram & Cockran. She is founder and chairperson of the Connecticut chapter of the Counselors of Real Estate. Fitzpatrick is vice president and national sales administrator for the National Commercial Services division of LandAmerica Financial Group in Fairfield and the company1s environmental insurance subsidiary, LandAmerica Environmental Insurance Service Agency.
Ray Taylor has joined Vidal/Wettenstein, LLC as a senior office and industrial broker. For 16 years he was with CB Richard Ellis.
Tim Shannon, M.D. former senior vice president of global medical development for Bayer Pharmaceuticals, has joined CuraGen Corp. as senior vice president of R&D and chief medical officer. Shannon began his pharmaceutical career with Bayer as an associate director of medical research in metabolism, cancer and inflammation and designed the reorganization of Bayer1s global drug safety organization and implemented the reorganization of Bayer1s development organization. Shannon earned his bachelor1s in chemistry from Amherst College and his M.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He previously served as an assistant professor of medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine.Patricia M. Worthy and Kyle L. Ballou of Yale-New Haven Hospital have been honored as 3Women of Color in Health, Science and Technology2 at an annual event sponsored by Career Communications Group of Baltimore. Worthy, an R.N. and manager of Workforce Diversity, was the winner in the Affirmative Action category. Ballou, an attorney and administrative director of community and government relations, was honored in the Special Recognition category.
Harry Rosenberg has joined the staff of Tower One/Tower East as residential services director. He previously served as executive director of the Jewish Care Network. He was also director of Infoline of South Central Connecticut, manager of the Senior Services Department at the Hospital of Saint Raphael and director of the Goodwin-Levine Adult Day Health Center. Rosenberg has a master1s in social work from Rutgers University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
