STORRS - The University of Connecticut Family Business Program has announced this year's finalists in its 2002 Connecticut Family Business of the Year Awards. The awards honor family businesses that embody core family values and the best of American free enterprise.
The 12 finalists will be honored at a November 20 ceremony. Honorees in the small (five to 40 employees) business category include Burnside Ice Co. of East Hartford, Jaci Carroll Staffing of Middlebury, Newington Memorial Funeral Home and Redding Nursery.
Honorees in the mid-sized (41 to 74 workers) business category include Albert Brothers of Waterbury, Amodio Worldwide Moving & Storage of New Britain, Barker Specialty of Cheshire and Thomas Cadillac in Hartford.
Also honored will be Footprints Fashion Footwear of Newington, Geissler's Supermarkets of East Windsor, Pye & Hogan Machine Co. in Old Saybrook and RC Bigelow of Fairfield in the large (75-plus employees) business category.
Albert Brothers of Waterbury will also be honored with the 2002 "Ulizio Business Achievement Award," recognizing a family firm that has made significant contributions to and advancements within its industry.
