HAMDEN - A partnership between the town of Hamden and the United Illuminating Co. resulted in $1.6 million in energy savings costs through conservation efforts and a jointly developed Community Energy Initiative. The benefits of the collaboration were touted at an awards breakfast last month at Laurel View Country Club honoring townspeople and volunteers who aided the initiative.
The goal of the Community Energy Initiative is to advance the efficient use of energy, protect the environment and promote economic development. "A more energy-efficient community brings positive benefits to everyone, from residents to the businesses that operate here," explained Hamden Mayor Carl J. Amento. "The Community Energy Initiative produced over $1.6 million in energy savings for Hamden since its inception in July 2001. The entire community is reaping the benefits of this program, either directly by saving money on home energy bills, or indirectly through repaired walking trails and a cleaner environment."
