The board of directors of New Haven Savings Bank has announced the appointment of Peyton Patterson as chairman, chief executive officer and president of New Haven Savings Bank. She is currently executive vice president, general manager of consumer with Dime Bancorp in New York and is responsible for its consumer, investment and small-business segments in the New York metro area. In banking for 20 years, she previously worked at Corestates Financial Group and Chase Manhattan. A resident of Greenwich, Patterson replaces Charles Terrell, who passed away earlier this year. She is expected to join New Haven Savings Bank in January following the merger of Dime and Washington Mutual. Until then Richard J. Grossi, acting chairman, and Kenneth P. Kaminsky, acting chief executive officer, will continue in their respective roles.
Betsey Parlato has been named executive director of Chapel Haven in New Haven. She began her career in development at Mattatuck Community College in 1982, and in 1988 became director of public relations for Quinnipiac University, ultimately becoming vice president for public affairs. In 1998 she served as vice president for institutional advancement at Albertus Magnus College. For the past three years Parlato has served as director of development and communications for Chapel Haven.
Mary Therien, RN, of Stratford, has been named president and CEO of the Stratford Visiting Nurse Association. She replaces Helen O'Brien, who retired after 21 years of service. With the VNA for 15 years, she previously served as vice president of operations. Therien earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Bridgeport's School of Nursing and an MBA from Southern Connecticut State University's School of Business.
Mary Jo Romano of Trumbull has joined the Infinex Financial Group, located at the Milford Bank. She will serve as a registered investment advisor. Romano earned her bachelor's degree from Western Connecticut State College and a master's in business administration from Sacred Heart University.
WTNH-TV in New Haven has named Sports Team 8 producer John Pierson to be weekend anchor. Pierson, who joined WTNH in 1995 as sports producer, previously worked in production at ESPN in Bristol. A graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, he has earned several New England Emmy nominations for his work.
James B. Fitzgerald has been named chief financial officer and group executive vice president for accounting and finance of the Citizens Financial Group Inc. He oversees the company's accounting, corporate taxes and insurance and corporate planning units. He is also a member of the company's executive police committee, the senior leadership team at Citizens. Fitzgerald returned to Citizens in June 2001 to become CFO. He was senior vice president and head of merger and acquisition activities at Citizens from 1994 to 1997. Fitzgerald previously served as senior vice president of corporate development at Washington Mutual in Seattle. He received his bachelor's degree in finance from Lehigh University and an MBA from Fordham University.
Michael A. Devito of Meriden has been named director of administrative services in the department of medicine at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven. Devito will be responsible for overall administrative and fiscal management of respiratory care, pulmonary and critical care, gastroenterology lab, cardiology administration, cardiology cath lab, infectious diseases, the Haelen Center and the hematology/oncology infusion center. Devito, who joined Saint Raphael's in 1985, earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from State University College of New York/Brockport and his master's degree in health services administration from the New School for Social Research's Graduate School of Management & Urban Professions in New York.
Antonio Esperti of Hamden, a certified public accountant, has joined the Branford accounting firm of Bailey Schaefer & Erroto LLC as a senior accountant. A 1995 graduate of Quinnipiac University, Esperti was previously employed by Finer Chasse & Marcarelli in Woodbridge.
The WorkPlace Inc. Southwestern Connecticut's Regional Workforce Development Board, has announced that Michael J. McCarthy has been appointed manager of employer workforce services. The newly created division of WorkPlace will be responsible for assisting targeted industries in responding to the changing needs of its workforce. McCarthy earned his bachelor of arts in political science from Albertus Magnus College and a master's of science in urban management from Southern Connecticut State University. He worked for the city of Bridgeport as a grant writer prior to joining the WorkPlace last year.
The Yale School of Management recently honored William J. McDonough, president and chief executive office of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, with the Yale School of Management Award for Distinguished Leadership in Global Capital Markets. McDonough is the second honoree of the award. The ceremony last month was attended by 50 of the world's leading financiers, finance ministers and central bank governors who gathered for a discussion on the future of global markets.
The Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce has announced that nine executives have graduated from the Greater New Haven Center's Executive Orientation program. The program is designed for executives from corporate, non-profit and government organizations who are new to the area and/or new to their positions and are interested in regional issues. Graduates are: David H. Barkin, president of Barkin Andrade Architects; Joseph D'Apolito, regional finance officer of Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield; Dan Jusino, executive director of STRIVE New Haven; John R. Kessler Jr., vice president of planning and development of Saint Raphael Healthcare System; Rick Mayer, director of the JFM Foundation; John W. Morgan, director of public relations for Quinnpiac University; Norma Rodriguez-Reyes, president of LaVoz Hispana; Mary Gayle Vance, associate executive director of Girl Scouts Connecticut Trail Council; and Janet Weiswasser, executive director of Friends of Yale New Haven Children's Hospital and director of community relations and program development for Yale-New Haven Hospital's Department of Pediatrics.
Katharine O'Sullivan of New Haven has been appointed afternoon newscaster at WQUN radio (1220 AM), Quinnipiac University's commercial radio station. Prior to becoming a permanent staff member, O'Sullivan worked at the station as an intern. She is a senior mass communications major in the QU School of Communications.
Dale Danowski has been named vice president for clinical management at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. With St. Vincent's since 1981, she previously served as director of medical and surgical nursing. Danowski received her BSN degree from the University of Connecticut and her MBA from the University of New Haven.
