BRIDGEPORT - Donald T. Heroman, we hardly knew ye. After barely more than a year on the job as chief financial officer and executive vice president of People's Bank, Heroman has departed to take the CFO's job at Equifax Inc. of Atlanta.
Heroman arrived at People's in July of last year from SunTrust Banks Inc., a Georgia banking company, where he had worked for 13 years. That Heroman never moved his family to Connecticut must have given People's Chairman John Klein pause.
Equifax is the largest U.S. credit reporting agency. Heroman, who is scheduled to begin work November 25, replaces Philip Mazzilli, who Equifax said would retire next year.
Of Heroman, whom People's recruited to bolster its then-flagging credit-card business, People's chairman Klein said: "I greatly appreciate the enormous personal sacrifice that Don has made being away from his family during the past 14 months.
"In the time he has been with us," added Klein, "Don has had a strong and positive impact on the organization in his approach to balance sheet management and to our overall financial management process. His introduction of new financial systems to the bank will serve us well for years to come."
People's said it would begin a search for a new CFO immediately. The bank has managed assets of about $13 billion.
