Albertus Magnus College has appointed philosophy professor Sean P. O'Connell to the new position of associate academic dean, overseeing the undergraduate day program and reporting to the vice president for academic affairs. O'Connell, who joined the AMC faculty in 1987, earned his Ph.D. from Fordham and has done postdoctoral study at Fordham, the University of California/Santa Cruz and Yale University. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the Catholic University of America. His book, Outspeak: Narrating Identities that Matter, was published in 2001.

Carol K. Jordan, R.N., M.S.N., of Willimantic has been named director of patient services for the Surgical Nursing Division at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. Jordan will be responsible for all aspects of managing surgical nursing services and physical medicine and rehabilitative services including daily operations, fiscal and planning functions as well as the quality of clinical services. Jordan has more than 20 years of nursing experience including positions as assistant vice president for nursing services at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs and director of nursing services at Avery Heights, Hartford. She most recently was interim chief nursing and operating officer at Sharon Hospital. Jordan earned her nursing degree and master's degrees in health care administration and maternal child health from the University of Connecticut.

The Hill Health Center has hired Ree LeBlanc Gunter as senior clinician for a new Employee Assistance Program (EAP) aimed at workers living in Empowerment Zone neighborhoods of New Haven who may be having trouble keeping their jobs. Gunter received her degree in clinical psychology from Pennsylvania State University and has worked at SUNY/Purchase and Michigan State University. EAP aims to assist residents of the Empowerment Zones (EZ) in New Haven to remain employed.

Mason & Madison Public Relations announced that Derek Beere has joined the agency as assistant account executive. Beere will assist with agency accounts Krispy Kreme, Emhart Teknologies and Hartford Ball.

Dennis J. Richardson of Wallingford, a biology professor in the School of Health Sciences at Quinnipiac University, recently completed his third and final term as president of a 92-year-old scientific society dedicated to the study of worms. Richardson has been president of the Helminthological Society of Washington, D.C, the oldest parasitological society in North America, for three years. The society has 470 members from 34 countries. Founded in 1910, the society focuses on comparative research, emphasizing taxonomy, systematics, ecology and faunal survey and inventory.

Wiggin & Dana LLP, has announced that Edward Wood Dunham has been elected chair of the executive committee of the 150-lawyer firm, with offices in New Haven, Stamford, Hartford and Philadelphia. The five executive-committee members serve three-year terms. Dunham, a trial lawyer, is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and editor-in-chief of the ABA Franchise Law Journal. He has been elected to serve on the Governing Committee of the ABA Forum on Franchising, and is also listed as a commercial litigator in Best Lawyers in America.

Also on the W&D committee is James F. Farrington Jr., chair of the Biotechnology and Life Sciences Practice Group. Farrington concentrates his practice on commercial business transactions, especially acquisitions, joint ventures, licensing and other technology transfer transactions. David B. Fein, formerly associate counsel to President Clinton and senior federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, will serve on the executive committee while continuing to head the firm's White-Collar Defense, Investigations and Corporate Compliance Practice Group. Peter J. Lefeber, employment litigation partner, is past chair of the firm's Labor and Employment Department and a former member of the Executive Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association's Labor & Employment Law Section. P. Maureen Weaver is the chair of the Health Care Department. She is president of the Connecticut Health Lawyers' Association. Noel Hanf, managing partner of the firm since 1994, will resume his full-time practice concentrating in utilities law.

Scilla Dowling & Natarelli has named two team appointments: Joseph Tarasuk has been hired as an in-charge accountant in the tax department in the firm's New Haven office. Jessica Wacha has been hired as a staff accountant in the audit department. Both Tarasuk, who previously worked for Arthur Andersen, and Wacha, who previously worked for Harper & Whitfield, earned bachelor's degrees in accounting from the University of Connecticut.

Owen T. Davis of North Haven has been named marketing director of Laurel Gardens in Hamden. Davis has a background in pharmaceutical sales and previously was a teacher at North Haven High School.
Tom Gniazdowski Garrett of North Haven has been appointment media solutions producer/media services supervisor at Quinnipiac University. Garret provides technical assistance to faculty members teaching courses over the Internet through QU Online, Quinnipiac's Web-based distance-learning program. He is also responsible for special projects such as creating video news releases. Garret was a producer and advertising sales representative at Best West Productions in Sarasota, Fla. from 1993-2001 and founder of New York City-based Circa Entertainment, an independent film distribution company. He earned an MFA from New York University and a bachelor's in mass communication and business administration from the University of New Haven.
