NEW HAVEN - Higher One Inc., a provider of customized financial services to higher education institutions, will open a customer contact center in the Elm City. This function was previously outsourced to a center in Texas. Incorporated less than three years ago, Higher One employs about 20 full-time workers. The contact center will add five more jobs by about the end of the month.
"Having our customer contact center in-house will improve the level of service we provide our customers, while reducing our service cost," said Mark Volchek, the company's founder and chairman. "Recruiting qualified individuals is an ongoing challenge in any service center, but we believe New Haven is a good location for us with its low-cost basis and diverse labor pool. Since the founders of Higher One went to Yale, New Haven is special to us and we hope to give back to the city by creating more jobs."
Higher One currently has two major university clients. The company recently secured an additional $2 million in venture funding to continue its growth and technology development. The company provides customized one-card banking and electronic funds-disbursement to higher education institutions.
