NEW HAVEN - Bistro la Mensa, a restaurant specializing in pasta, panini and other Italian cuisine, is slated to open in mid-March. The eatery will fill the currently vacant rear section of the Yale Bookstore, but operate independently of the Barnes & Noble retailer.
The restaurant will be owned and operated by Gideon and Ficre Ghebreyesus, who have managed the popular Caffé Adulis on College Street for a decade. Ficre, the executive chef at Adulis, which serves Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine, will also be executive chef at Bistro La Mensa. The brothers say their new restaurant will be geared toward students, with entrée prices topping out at about $10.
