DERBY - Will and Chris Byron of Derby recently opened a Just-A-Buck store at Shop Rite Plaza, 49 Pershing Drive. The buck store biz is burgeoning: According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census, between 1992 to 2001, discount stores' market share grew by 52 percent, from $94 billion to almost $140 billion in sales. The store will sell manufacturers' close-outs, discontinued items or wares greatly discounted from the manufacturer, most priced at less than $1.
Headquartered in Goshen, N.Y., Just-A-Buck Licensing Inc. opened its first store in 1988. The company now has more than 40 stores across the eastern U.S. Its retail wares include health and beauty products, snacks, jewelry, housewares, hardware, gifts, pet supplies and seasonal items.
