NEW HAVEN - Achillion Pharmaceuticals has opened new drug discovery laboratories, including a state-of-the-art chemistry lab, to accommodate the company's expanding programs to discover new drugs to treat viral, bacterial and fungal infections, the company says. The new addition brings Achillion's total lab and office space to approximately 27,000 square feet at Achillion's headquarters in the 300 George Street Technology Center.
"This 12,500-square-foot expansion increases our drug discovery laboratories by more than 55 percent," says Milind Deshpande, Achillion's vice president for chemistry and head of discovery. "We have added world-class facilities for our growing medicinal, computational and analytical chemistry discovery groups, as well as substantial space for our expanding virology, microbiology and molecular screening groups."
Achillion is a privately held company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of small-molecule drugs that combat drug resistance in infectious diseases, with a particular emphasis on antiviral drugs to treat diseases caused by hepatitis B and C viruses as well as HIV.
