TRENTON, N.J. - The Journal Register Co. (NYSE: JRC) said it expects its fourth-quarter earnings to be in the mid-range of analysts' expectations, boosted by advertising gains at its flagship newspaper, the New Haven Register.
The current range of analysts' estimates is 21 to 25 cents a share for the fourth quarter, said company officials. The company made its projection at the Credit Suisse First Boston Media Week Conference in New York. The JRC said it expects to report annual earnings per share in 2002 of 85 to 96 cents, before adjusting for new accounting rules. Implementation of the new rules will reduce expenses by $10 million to $12 million, adding 20 to 23 cents to earnings per share.
