5BRIDGEPORT - The National Association of Counties has bestowed its Workforce Development Award for Excellence to the Workplace Inc., southwestern Connecticut's Regional Workforce Development Board. The award was earned for a “fill the gap” project cluster developed by the group. Federal Workforce Investment Act allocations to the Workplace Inc. and 630 similar groups across the nation may be used for services to specific groups and do not pay for all needed services to job-seekers and businesses. The Workforce Development Award was made for targeted job training and support-systems projects of the Workplace funded by sources other than the Workforce Investment Act. The Workplace coordintaes job training and education to residents and employers in 20 communities in the Valley, Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford areas.
