New Haven is willing to risk one of its greatest cultural assets, the Long Wharf Theatre, by proposing that it relocate to the downtown from its present perch 50 yards off a highway ramp from I-91 and I-95. Who among the New Haven elites will be courageous enough to suggest that one of the reasons Long Wharf has survived all these years is that suburbanites can sneak off the highway, see a show and escape without having to experience the city at all?
