The law firm of Cummings & Lockwood has elected Jonathan B. Mills to chair the firm. Mills joined Cummings & Lockwood in 1985 and was made a principal in 1994. Presently resident in the Stamford office, the New Canaan resident concentrates on commercial real estate transactions including commercial sales, acquisitions and financing. Mills received his undergraduate degree from Princeton and his law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Alfred E. Smith Jr. has been elected managing partner of Murtha Cullina, LLP. Smith has served on the firm's executive committee since 2001 and succeeds Paul R. McCary, managing partner since 1995. Smith joined Murtha Cullina in 1986 and his legal practice focuses on the areas of environmental regulatory compliance, permitting and liability management. The Woodbridge resident is a graduate of the University of Connecticut Law School and Georgetown University.

Roger F. Joyce, vice president of engineering for the Bilco Co. of West Haven, received the Community Leadership Award at the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce 2002 Awards Dinner. Presented annually, the award honors individuals who have distinguished themselves through their ability to marshal private and institutional resources to benefit the city and the region. A former chamber chairman, Joyce has also served as president of the Greater New Haven Personnel Association and the Manufacturers Association of New Haven County. Joyce also chaired the Tweed-New Haven Airport Authroty and Empower New Haven Inc.

Heather Lynn Clinger has joined Waterbury Hospital as coordinator of community health education. Clinger will be responsible for planning and facilitating health education programs, screenings, marketing the hospital's senior wellness organization and tracking the hospital's public health and disease management initiatives. Formerly a field liaison for the citywide immunization registry of the Medical and Health Research Association of New York City Inc., Clinger holds a master's degree in public health from George Washington University.

David Paulson, Kevin Burke and Jeffrey Kinney, three senior commercial bankers from Fleet Bank, have joined First Union Bank's Connecticut commercial team. Paulson will assume the role of commercial sales director. Burke and Kinney will serve as senior relationship managers, reporting to Paulson.

Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield has named Russell Munson, M.D., F.A.A.F.P., medical director for Connecticut. The board-certified family practitioner has been in private practice in Chester for 20 years and most recently served as medical director of Integrated Resources, a “virtual” physician hospital organization supporting the Middlesex Health System and Middlesex Professional Services IPA. Munson, a resident of Chester, holds a bachelor's degree from Wesleyan and earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Attorney Harriett Munrett Wolfe of Guilford has been named executive vice president, general counsel and secretary for Webster Financial Corp. and Webster Bank. Wolfe has been with Webster since 1997, previously serving as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. She earned a B.A. from the University of Connecticut and a J.D. from Pepperdine (Calif.) School of Law in California.

Amy Rosen of Branford has been named assistant director of alumni and parent relations at Quinnipiac University. She will be responsible for helping to coordinate activities of the alumni and parent-relations program. Rosen, previously director of sales for Best Western Executive Hotel in West Haven, holds a bachelor's in marketing from Quinnipiac.

Brian D. Ellsworth has been named president and CEO of the Connecticut Association for Home Care. Previously, Ellsworth was senior associate director of the policy and development group for the American Hospital Association in Washington, D.C.

Beardsley, Brown & Bassett, a subsidiary of People's Bank, has named Edward J. Paulson director of life sales. With more than 17 years of experience in life, disability and long-term care insurance, Paulson was most recently with People's insurance services. The Shelton resident earned a bachelor's in economics from the University of Bridgeport and serves as a director of the Helping Hand Center in Bridgeport.

Theresa Hopkins-Staten has been elected president and chairman of the Northeast Utilities Foundation. Funded by Northeast Utilities, the foundation supports community initiatives throughout New England. Hopkins-Staten was formerly executive director of the foundation.

Marjorie W. Dorr, president of Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield East, has been named to the board of directors of The New England Council. The nation's oldest regional business organization is an alliance of large and small companies, educational institutions, non-profit and other agencies dedicated to promoting economic development in the six-state region. Dorr joined Anthem in 1991 as vice president of corporate finance and became chief financial officer in 1994.

Terex Corp. of Westport has named Art Kaplan to the newly created position of president of Terex Roadbuilding. Kaplan will be responsible for the worldwide operations of CMI Terex, including the manufacture and distribution of asphalt and concrete paints, concrete paving systems and pavement profiling, reclaiming and stabilizing equipment.

Chapel Haven Inc., nonprofit licensed special education school in New Haven, has named Christine Puleo manager of communications and marketing. Puleo was previously a senior account executive for Jacobs & Prosek Public Relations in Stratford and New York. Also at Chapel Haven, Aaron Almendral was named supervisor of recreation. Almendral most recently managed an independent living program for United Cerebral Palsy in New York City.

Molly Free has joined H. Pearce Co.'s Madison office as residential sales associate and real estate consultant. The North Guilford resident has 17 years of real estate experience.

Glen Gitterman, co-owner of Allied Health Rehabilitation, has been named vice president of the West Haven Chamber of Commerce. Gitterman joined Allied Health Rehabilitation in 1990 and became co-owner of the facility in 1993.

The Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce announced the appointment of Stephen R. Sasala II as president and chief executive officer. Sasala's experience in public-purpose organizations includes local, county and state government and not-for-profit corporations. He most recently was president and CEO of Prosperity New Jersey Inc. Sasala earned a bachelor's in economics from Dusquene University, a master's in management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master of urban and regional planning from the University of Pittsburgh.

Kenneth Gibble of Old Saybrook has been honored by the Connecticut Society of Civil Engineers. Gibble, a principal with Gibble Norden Champion Brown, received the Benjamin Wright Award for an outstanding career and significant contribution to the field of civic engineering.

Press/Cuozzo Realtors in Hamden has hired Gary Damato. Damato, a 15-year veteran of the real estate industry, is a bank-owned property specialist.

William Orange Realty has hired Nancy Silverstein. A graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine, Silverstein practiced as a foot and ankle surgeon for more than 20 years before embarking on a real estate career.

Ralph Durante, president of Edge Technology of North Haven, has been appointed chairman of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce's 2003 membership drive. The New Haven native is a GNHCC director and chairman of the North Haven Economic Development Commission. The drive will take place February 10-11.

The Greater New Haven Convention & Visitors Bureau has named three new directors: Frances T. (Bitsie) Clark, recently retired executive director of the Arts Council of Greater New Haven, represents New Haven; Jack Walsh, Derby representative, is executive director of the Valley United Way; Ansonia representative Michael Wells is general manager of the Shelton Ramada Plaza. The CVB's purpose is to promote the New Haven region to leisure and group travelers, generating overnight business.
