ORANGE - A North Carolina furniture manufacturer will set up shop on the Boston Post Road. The Orange Plan & Zoning Commission has approved plans for a 20,000-square-foot Drexel Heritage furniture store on the 5.5-acre vacant site of the former Bar-Plate manufacturing company. Drexel Heritage officials says their company operates 39 stores, including three in Connecticut (Enfield, Avon and Brookfield), with 14 new ones being built by the end of 2003.
Town and company officials said they expect construction to get under way on the new building, and a 4,000-square-foot accessory building, next month. Work is scheduled to be completed by fall. The company started producing fine furniture in 1903 and today is headquartered in High Point, N.C.
