OXFORD - After six years in the approval process, Oxford Greens, the state's newest golf residential community, is scheduled to break ground at last. In addition to the championship golf course designed by architect Mark Mungeam, the $150 million, 630-acre master-planned development will feature a 400-home gated community. Groundbreaking on homes is planned for this summer, with the golf course scheduled to open next year. According to its developers, the project has generated a tremendous number of requests for information from prospective golfers and homebuyers since being announced last year. "We've been stunned by the velocity of demand for and interest in Oxford Greens," says Andrew Tedford, managing partner of Timberlake Development Partners. Vienna, Va.-based Billy Casper Golf has been retained to manage turnkey operations for the Golf Club at Oxford Greens. BCG, which operates or owns more then 40 golf courses and country clubs nationwide, will oversee planning activities for the golf club, which features five sets of tees that range in length from 4,982 yards to 7,147 yards.
