For the past seven years, Business New Haven has conferred its Business & Civic Awards on business people and citizens contributing significant new energy, innovations and ideas to the local community. We will do so again in February of next year.
In addition to naming a Businessperson of the Year, BNH also cites notable entrepreneurial achievers with a Small-Businessperson and Innovator of the Year honors. The Minority Businessperson of the Year honor has highlighted valuable contributions from the African-American, Latino and Asian business communities, while the Founders Award commends successful businesses (typically, though not necessarily, family-owned), in operation for a half-century or more.
Finally, and because we place a high premium on good citizenship in the business community, we have awarded Citizen of the Year honors to an individual businessperson who has distinguished her or himself by performing good deeds, and identified as Corporate Citizen of the Year a company that has accomplished likewise.
Our annual awards are not the result of a poll. We rely on the advice and suggestions of our readers and friends to spotlight achievements and individuals we may not otherwise have noticed.
If readers know of worthy nominees for the above honors, please e-mail us at awards@businessnewhaven.com to nominate a person or company you think worthy of consideration. Please describe, in 250 words or less, what actions or achievements that organization or individual accomplished in 2001 to make it, he or she worthy of recognition.
