Newtown Savings Bank has named John F. Trentacosta senior executive vice president. Trentacosta joined the bank in 1998 as senior vice president/comptroller and in 2000 was promoted to executive vice president/chief financial officer. New responsibilities for the Orange resident will include deposit operations, loan servicing and human resources. Trentacosta will retain the responsibilities of chief financial officer and be responsible for the bank's information systems.
Carole LaPrise has joined the Greater New Haven Convention & Visitors Bureau as the new convention and tourism sales manager. LaPrise has 11 years of experience in hotel sales for properties in Massachusetts and Connecticut, most recently as director of sales for the Trumbull Marriott. The Shelton resident's new responsibilities will include representing the region at motor coach and meeting industry trade shows and attracting new conventions and bus groups to the region through direct sales efforts.
Shipman & Goodwin, LLP has named Anne H. Littlefield partner of the firm. Specializing in education law, Littlefield represents public school districts, charter schools and independent schools in labor relations, education policies and practices and special education. Littlefield's practice also includes representation of employers appearing before administrative agencies. A member of the Connecticut, Rhode Island and American Bar Associations, Littlefield is also a member of the Connecticut Bar Association's Education Law Committee and the Hartford Association of Women Attorneys.
The advertising firm of McLaughlin, DelVecchio & Casey named Kathleen Goffa to head its public relations team and manage new client development as director of public relations. Previously an associate with Sullivan & LeShane Public Relations in Hartford, Goffa will develop and oversee the firm's public relations programs with a focus on enhancing advertising and marketing initiatives. The Hartford resident is the membership chair for the Connecticut Valley chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).
Jonathan Spence, Sterling Professor of History at Yale, has been elected president of the American Historical Association for the 2004-05 term. Recognized as one of the foremost scholars of Chinese-civilization, Spence has written extensively on the role of history in shaping modern China. A native of England, Spence earned his bachelor's degree from Cambridge as well as master's and doctoral degrees from Yale. He began teaching at Yale in 1965 and was named the Sterling Professor of History in 1993. In 2001, Spence was made a companion of the distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, an honor bestowed by H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth II for outstanding achievement.
Gateway Community College has named Vilandria Turner director of institutional advancement. Turner will work with the Gateway Community College Foundation to develop private sources of funding to support the college's needs, particularly for the upcoming capital campaign and campus consolidation. The Hamden resident most recently was director of annual giving at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Ronald P. Zappile has been named co-chairperson of the Connecticut/Westchester chapter of CoreNet Global, an organization of business leaders engaged in the strategic management of real estate for major corporations worldwide. The organization's primary objectives are to promote networking among real estate professionals and to provide educational programs through its Institute for Corporate Real Estate. President of United Technologies Realty Inc. and director of United Technologies Corp.'s (UTC) global real estate operations, Zappile is responsible for managing UTC's worldwide real estate portfolio.
Mary Lee Weber of Branford has been named director of marketing and community development for WTNH-TV in New Haven. Previously, Weber was the director of marketing/corporate development for WTNH-TV.
Imagistics International Inc. has named Doris J. Owens vice president for worldwide administration. She will manage administrative processes including business processing, account billing and collections, call-center customer support, field administrative support and equipment control.
Michael Johnson has been named corporate relations team vice president, brand and advertising for the Hartford Financial Services Group. He will direct the strategy and execution of the Hartford brand and advertising initiatives. Johnson most recently spent more than eight years as brand director/general manager of the Miller Brewing Co./Foster U.S. joint venture.
Thomas Gerson has been named chief financial officer of Cellular Genomics Inc. (CGI) of Branford. Joining CGI in November 2000, Gerson has more than 25 years' experience in corporate finance, business strategy and operational analysis. Previously he was director of financial planning & analysis for Sanofi Pharmaceuticals' U.S. research & development operations.
And Mark Villeca M.D., Ph.D., has been named vice president of research and pre-clinical development of Cellular Genomics Inc. One of CGI's founding scientists, the board-certified clinical pathologist has more than 15 years of experience in biomedical research and clinical medicine. An attending physician at Yale-New Haven Hospital until 2002, Velleca maintains an adjunct appointment at Yale University as a clinical assistant professor of laboratory medicine.
A.J. Wasserstein, president of ArchivesOne in Watertown, has been elected president of Professional Records & Information Services Management International (PRISM), a not-for-profit trade association for companies that provide their clients with protection, access, retention storage and disposal of vital records information.
Donald Kim, M.D., M.B.A, has joined the Hospital of Saint Raphael as surgical intensive care unit director. The Milford resident will be directing the daily clinical operations of the unit. Since 1996, Kim has been program director of the surgical critical care fellowship at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Kim earned his M.D. from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown, O. and a master's degree in business administration from Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business.
