HARTFORD - Being an engineer at jet-engine maker Pratt & Whitney traditionally has meant a good salary and benefits and nearly unmatched security. No more. After having sent thousands of computer and manufacturing jobs overseas, the United Technologies Corp. subsidiary recently outsourced some 200 engineering jobs to India, according to the Hartford Courant. Moreover, that may be only the first wave of a flood of white-collar jobs relocated to low-wage countries. UTC Chairman George David told Wall Street analysts last month that sending more engineering work abroad would help the company keep its pricing competitive, and boost profit margins. "We're just getting started," he said.
