Directors of the Southern Connecticut Bancorp and the Bank of Southern Connecticut have elected Michael M. Ciaburri president, chief operating officer and director of the bank. Ciaburri succeeds his father, Joseph V. Ciaburri, who will remain as chairman and chief executive officer of both the Southern Connecticut Bancorp and its bank subsidiary. Ciaburri began his banking career in 1983 in New York and later trained in London. Ciaburri was graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Georgetown University and the School of Bank Administration at the University of Wisconsin.

Robert A.M. Stern has been named to a second term as dean of the Yale School of Architecture. During his five-year tenure Stern initiated the interior renovation of the landmark building in which the school is housed and attracted many of the most acclaimed architects to its classrooms, lecture halls and studios. Before coming to Yale, Stern was professor and director of the Historical Preservation Department of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University. Stern also was the first director of Columbia's Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture.

The Bank of Southern Connecticut has also named three new officers: Neil Chorney, vice president and branch officer; Joseph P. Nuzzo, vice president of commercial lending; and S. John Severson, vice president of marketing. All are experienced local bankers: Chorney started his banking career in 1984 at the Bank of New Haven, Nuzzo in 1990 at the same institution and Severson in 1985 at Fleet Bank.

New Havener Carl S. Feen has been named chairman of the board for the Yale Cardiovascular Research Fund. As Yale pursues research in the genetics and molecular biology of cardiovascular disease and health-services research, the fund provides support for emerging physician-scientists. In 1999, President Bill Clinton appointed Feen to the President's Advisory Committee on the Arts for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Today he sits on the National Committee for the Performing Arts. Feen is a graduate of Hillhouse High School and Northeastern University.

Jeffrey Handler has been named vice president for enrollment management at the University of Bridgeport. Handler plans to develop a comprehensive student life program that complements the intellectual growth that takes place in the classroom and to improve UB's visibility on the Internet. He has more than 25 years' experience in higher education in enrollment management, admissions, financial aid, academic advisement, registration, career services and student life. Handler has a B.A. from Lehman College in New York City and an M.A. from Columbia University.

Gil Simmons has joined WTNH-TV's News Channel 8 Storm Team as the weekend evening meteorologist. In addition to forecasting weekend weather, Simmons will contribute to weather and environmental coverage in other newscasts. Most recently, Simmons worked at the cable channel News 12 Connecticut where he was chief meteorologist. Simmons is a graduate of Western Connecticut State University, a member of the American Meteorological Society with a television seal of approval and a member of the National Weather Association.

Hamden resident Jean Blue has been named associate dean of Quinnipiac University's College of Liberal Arts. Blue will be responsible for class schedules and registration, organizing the college's advising system and counseling students. She has been the interim associate dean since August 2001. Blue earned a law degree from the University of Connecticut and a bachelor's degree in history from Carleton (Minn.) College. She joined Quinnipiac as an adjunct professor of legal studies in 1991.

Carol Reed, M.D. has been named vice president of medical affairs at Genaissance Pharmaceuticals Inc. Reed. Previously executive director of medical affairs, Reed will be responsible for the company's drug-specific partnership collaborations and internal clinical programs. Reed earned a M.S. in molecular biology from the University of Illinois and a M.D. from Rush Medical College in Chicago.

Clinton resident Luke Maucione has been promoted to general manager of manufacturing for Algonquin Industries in Guilford, a division of Rhea Magnet Wire Co. Inc. Algonquin manufactures magnetic and electromechanical wire for stamping industries. Maucione joined the company in 1999 and most recently served as plant manager.

Barbara Beaudoin has been named Connecticut group executive for Fleet Business Financial Services. In this new position, Beaudoin will be responsible for a business unit that provides financial services to the more than 3,000 Connecticut businesses in the $2 million-to-$1 billion annual sales range, as well as to the health-care industry. Beaudoin began her banking career in commercial lending with BankBoston in 1984 and joined the commercial real estate unit of Fleet Bank in 1992. She is a director of the Capital Housing Corp. and serves as a director of the Greater Hartford Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have named William Gedge of North Haven, senior vice president for Yale New Haven Health System, to the new nationwide Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP). Gedge will join 101 other members who listen to taxpayers, identify issues and make suggestions for improving IRS service and customer satisfaction. Panel members are U.S. citizens who devote 300 hours during the year to working with IRS executives on priority topics. Members also serve as a conduit for grassroots issues from the public.

Lucille Andolina Janatka, president and chief executive officer of MidState Medical Center in Meriden, has advanced to fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), an international professional society representing nearly 30,000 health-care executives. Fellow status is the highest level of professional achievement in ACHE. Candidates must demonstrate their education, experience and leadership in the health-care field over a period of years and successfully complete a written examination and complete a significant project on a subject related to health-care management.

Ashwin Patel is the new owner of the Branford Ramada Limited. Patel is also one of the partners of Branford Hospitality LLC. Also, Gale S. M. Placon has been named director of sales at the Branford Ramada Limited. Placon received a master's degree in hospitality and tourism from the University of New Haven
