NEW HAVEN - The Hospital of Saint Raphael has opened its seventh Project ElderCare geriatric primary care clinic at McQueeney Towers, 358 Orange Street. The clinic provides the same services as Saint Raphael's six other state-licensed clinics in senior housing complexes and centers throughout New Haven. Those services include primary care, health screenings, blood and other draws for lab tests, podiatric care and social services, including personal and financial counseling. An eighth Project ElderCare site at the East Shore Senior Center provides podiatric care and blood pressure, glucose and other health screenings only.
John Merritt, M.D. is supervising physician of Project ElderCare. Section chief of geriatrics at Saint Raphael's, Merritt proposed Project ElderCare more than ten years ago to make care more convenient for seniors with limited mobility, dementia or other physical or mental difficulties. The program now serves some 220 seniors.
