| BRIDGEPORT - St. Vincent's Medical Center has appointed its first full-time electrophysiologist, Adam Lottick, who comes to the hospital from the Minnesota Heart Center. Because electrophysiology (EP) is so new and its practitioners so few, most community hospitals do not have EP specialists on staff. St. Vincent's new Regional Heart & Vascular Center is home to new treatments developed over the last 20 years including minimally invasove in-heart tests of electrical impulses and the ability to implant defibrillators to address irregularities. An implantable defibrillator about the size of a man's wallet detects irregular heartbeats and shocks the heart out of its potentially lethal arrhythmia.
