Minority Supplier Council Cites Companies At Annual Event

The Connecticut Minority Supplier Development Council (CMSDC) and the Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC) will host their 20th Awards Banquet at the Aqua Turf Country Club in Southington on April 17. This year's theme is Emerging Partnerships Through Globalization. James Rosser, recently featured on the Discovery Channel for his works in the developing field of cybersurgery, will be the keynote speaker. Honorary chairs are Colin Vice, executive director of the Bridgeport Housing Authority, and Pilar Bernd of the Bernd Group.
Nominees for Corporation of the Year are: The Hartford, United Technologies Corp., Kaman Aerospace, and Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Connecticut.
Buyer of the Year nominees are: Bonnie Nadler for Kaman Aerospace; Omar Fathi and James Jordano for United Technologies; Nancy Armstrong for Pitney Bowes; Bill Tortoriello for Merck & Co.; and Anne-Marie Luce for the Electric Boat division of General Dynamics Corp.
MBE Empowerment Award nominees include: Ronald Williams for W&R, LLC; Gilbert Morrell for the Nucon Group; Himanshu Gandhi for SDG Corp.; Ahmed Ashan for Horizon Staffing Services; and Tricia Farin for Jantris Marketing.
Advocate of the Year nominees are; James Michel and David James for MDC; Rick Cassella for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation; Ray Hill for Pitney Bowes; Cassandra Charles Gerst and James Jordano for United Technologies; Bonnie Nadler for Kaman Aerospace; and Cheryl Clarke for Northeast Utilities.
Supplier of the Year nominees are in three categories based upon annual sales. Category III nominees (more than $10 million): Specialized Packaging Group Inc., Hamden, CEO Carlton Highsmith, nominated by Proctor & Gamble; Somerset Capital Group LTD, Bridgeport, CEO Pedro E. Wasmer, nominated by SBC/SNET; Nucon Group Inc. of New London, CEO Gilbert C. Morrell, nominated by United Technologies; and A.R. Alves of Engineering Sintering & Plastics Inc. of Watertown, nominated by Pitney Bowes.
Category II nominees ($1 million-$10 million annual sales): Thomaston Safety Group, LLC of Plymouth, CEO Rashi Soni, nominated by Pitney Bowes; Entegram LLC, of Windsor, Ramesh Mugalam, CEO, nominated by United Technologies Corp.
Category I nominees (less than $1 million): Four Corners Advertising, LLC of Hartford, CEO Wanda Dawkins, nominated by Northeast Utilities and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Massachusetts; and Sons Specialty Gas, LLC of Enfield, CEO Kim Bui, nominated by United Technologies Corp.
