The University of New Haven's School of Business officially launched its new Center for Women's Leadership on April 9.
The Center for Women's Leadership (CWL) was designed to offer support for women in the workplace primarily through networking, mentoring, information sharing and open discussions.
The CWL is integral to the mission and vision of the University of New Haven and its School of Business: It is intended to provide life-long learning for students, alumni and the community at large, as well as enhance the university's diversity initiatives.
Headed by Dean Zeljan Suster, the CWL plans to host annual conferences for practitioners and academics as well as regular executive-type seminars, panel discussions and workshops. It will also publish a magazine and develop a resource database for women.
According to Suster, the CWL hopes to reach out to the thousands of female alumnae from the School of Business and UNH, including more than 600 whom the school identifies as holding top positions in organizations in Connecticut and beyond. As part of the center's April 9 launch festivities, Patricia Auburdene, co-author of Megatrends for Women, gave the featured address. Auburdene's new book, In Search of Corporate Soul, will be published later this year. According to Suster, nearly 50 percent of all UNH School of Business students are female.
