NEW HAVEN - TurboGenomics Inc., a provider of bioinformatics software, has announced support for the IBM eServer pSeries 690, which was introduced last month. The IBM eServer p690 server increases the range of manageable and scalable IBM platforms for TurboGenomics's TurboBlast, an advanced bioinformatics search solution. TurboBlast is an accelerated, parallel implementation of Blast, a sequence-comparison tool distributed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information that provides critical insight into the structure and function of genes and proteins. TurboBlast provides life scientists working on any of the major operating systems (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Unix) with a cost-effective solution for removing the computational bottleneck in the widely used Blast application. Running on dedicated clusters of workstations or on idle desktop machines, TurboBlast enables researchers to run large, comprehensive homology searches that would be impractical or impossible using ordinary NCBI Blast.
