Network services VP Macauda replaces Blase After it decided to move its SNET president and CEO up the corporate ladder, SBC didn't need to look far for a replacement. Michele Macauda, a 25-year SNET veteran who most recently was vice president of SBC SNET network services, was named on June 2 to replace Bill Blase, effective immediately. The 46-year-old Bridgeport native becomes the fifth person to hold the top job since SNET was acquired by the San Antonio-based SBC Corp. five years ago. Blase will move to Dallas, Tex. to lead SBC Southwest, formerly known as Southwestern Bell. The subsidiary operates in Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas. Blase follows Forrest Miller, who previously headed SBC SNET. Miller took over the top SNET from Tom Morgan, who replaced CEO Daniel J. Miglio following the 1998 buyout, which Miglio engineered. "Michele Macauda is a versatile and established communications leader in Connecticut," said SBC Chairman and CEO Edward E. Whitacre Jr. in a statement. "Our Connecticut customers and employees will benefit from Michele's strong commitment to providing excellent service and her vast knowledge of Connecticut operations and the industry." Holder of a bachelor's degree from Fairfield University, Macauda is also vice chairperson of the Connecticut Technology Council. She will lead some 7,000 SBC SNET employees in Connecticut and be responsible for the operation of more than two million access lines. Macauda will also be responsible for network services, sales and marketing.
