WALLINGFORD - VBrick Systems Inc. a provider of DVD-quality video networking appliances, and AVD Technologies, a Holt, Mich. systems integrator, have announced that AVD successfully deployed more than 50 VBrick network video appliances to enable the state of Michigan's Department of Transportation (MDOT) to monitor traffic flow around a major highway construction project in the Lansing area. The video network was used by MDOT and motorists to view real-time traffic patterns and emergencies. Video of the construction project was captured by cameras mounted on utility poles and bridge decks, encoded into standard MPEG format by VBrick and transmitted to central monitoring facilities over a wireless Ethernet network for viewing and analysis by MDOT employees. The system is believed to be one of the first wireless Ethernet video applications used for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and one of the first traffic monitoring applications instantly viewable by interested motorists.
