BRIDGEPORT - In his "State of the City" address at the annual meeting of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council June 19 in the Harbor View Ballroom, Mayor John M. Fabrizi insisted that Bridgeport is back on its feet, "fundamentally sound and getting stronger each and every day," evident in the opportunities of proposed economic development projects such as the Intermodal Transportation Center, the expansion of Housatonic Community College and the promise of the large-scale Steel Point and Lake Success initiatives.
Fabrizi touted the smooth transition of power following the resignation of Joseph Ganim following his conviction on corruption charges. He noted his administration's ability to restore the City Ethics Commission as well as strengthen the purchasing and procurement policies through the help of newly-appointed staff and his interim transition team. In addition to restoring constructive relations and communications with state and federal governmental officials to enable further city development, the mayor waxed enthusiastic about contract settlements with the police and fire unions and a balanced budget.
