Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven presented its Master Builder Award to architect Duo Dickinson of Madison. The award cites individuals and organizations that support Habitat's mission of increasing home-ownership. Known for assisting many not-for-profit organizations with resources from his architectural firm, Dickinson was recognized for his work as a member of the board of Habitat.

Achillion Pharmaceuticals in New Haven has appointed Muzammil M. Mansuri to its Scientific Advisory Board. A veteran of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries with more than 15 years experience in small-molecule drug discovery, Mansuri is director and executive chairman of Adaptive Therapeutics and chairman of Beyond Genomics. Mansuri earned his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from University College in London.

Guilford resident Charles Hollander, M.D. has been named vice president of clinical management for the Saint Raphael Healthcare System. Hollander will oversee emergency medicine in addition to his other responsibilities. Hollander has worked in health-care administration for 18 years. He has served as chairman of clinical management since 1998 and is an assistant clinical professor at the Yale University School of Medicine.

Karen Tocher, MSW has joined Jewish Family Service of New Haven as a social worker on the Therapeutic and Medically Complex Foster Care Team. Tocher will provide support of special needs foster homes and services to foster children and foster/adoptive parents.

Albertus Magnus College has appointed Dawn DeStefano Grady as director of alumni relations. Most recently, Grady was advertising sales executive for the Greater Lansing Business Monthly in Michigan and served as education manager for Junior Achievement of Mid-Michigan. Grady was a communications major at AMC.

Mory Katz has been appointed to a three-year term as a director of the national Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Katz is chairman and chief executive officer of Response Insurance in Meriden.

Two Yale School of Medicine professors have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences. Linda Bartoshuk, who studies taste receptors and Arthur Horwich, M.D., who studies protein folding in a cell, were among the 72 members elected. The academy is a private organization of scientists and engineers which acts as an official adviser to the federal government in matters of science or technology.

Chief investment officer of the Woodbridge-based Beneficial Capital Inc., Paul Schatz has been elected treasurer of the Society of Asset Allocators & Fund Timers Inc. (SAAFTI). Schatz is a registered investment advisor and NASD broker dealer who manages more than $30 million in assets for individuals, foundations, trusts and corporations. SAAFTI is a national association of registered investment advisory firms who use active investment strategies to optimize risk-adjusted returns and protect client assets.

The Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce has elected its board of directors for 2003-04. The Executive Committee includes Allen Jackson of Webster Insurance, chairman; Chris Nolan of H. Pearce Co., Realtors, vice chairman; John Mattingly of Hudson United Bank, treasurer; Ralph Becker of MidState Medical Center, secretary; Al Scafati of Press/Cuozzo Realtors representative-at-large for North Haven; John Mezzanotte, attorney, representative-at-large for Wallingford; and Shay Atluru of Diversified Technology Consultants, past chairman.

Gary Giroux has joined the Shelton architecture/engineering/interior design firm of Fletcher Thompson as director of its Civil Engineering Studio. Giroux is responsible for engineering, design and construction document-preparation for federal, state, municipal and private client projects. Giroux has a background with extensive project design and management experience.

Hugh Manke has been named to chair the Arts Cluster Committee of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce. Managing partner of the New Haven offices of Updike, Kelly & Spellacy, Manke replaces Richard J. Grossi, who stepped down from the post earlier this year. The Cluster Committee was formed after the state's Department of Economic & Community Development awarded the New Haven chamber a two-year grant to advance the regional cluster-based economic development process recommended by the New Haven Inner City Business Strategy Initiative.

Yale University has appointed two deputy provosts to help shape and implement the academic, administrative and budgetary policies of the university. Barbara Shailor, director of the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, was announced as deputy for the arts. Irenee duPont professor of chemistry and molecular biophysics and biochemistry Andrew Hamilton was appointed deputy for science and technology.

The Long Wharf Theatre Board of Trustees has elected Jerome Meyer its chairman. The fourth chair in the theater's history, Meyer was president of the Long Wharf board for the last six years (under Chairwoman Barbara Pearce) and also chaired LWT's Education Committee. He is a founding board member of New Haven's Elm Shakespeare Theater Co. and the Open End Theater and is a director the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center.

Milford resident Willard T. Pinn has been named vice president of rehabilitation services at the Kennedy Center in Trumbull. Pinn will oversee 34 employees and be responsible for key areas including mental health and addiction services, acquired brain injury and school-to-career services. Previously director of YMCA Training Inc. in Boston, Pinn also served on the board of directors of the Amherst Area Education Alliance in Amherst, Mass.

Teresa J. Reichert and Robert T. Gradoville have joined the New Haven law firm of Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, PC. Both earned law degrees from Duke University. Reichert has worked in corporate and individual tax and estate planning. She is also a member of the Connecticut Estate & Tax Planning Council. Gradoville specializes in tax, business and personal planning including estate planning and employee benefits. He has been published and received the Distinguished Author Award from the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants in 1990.

HB Communications Inc. of North Haven announced the appointment of Dana Barron as chief executive officer. Previously Barron served as credit manager and vice president of operations for the company. Barron earned a degree in business administration from Bryant College.

Peggy Jerrell of West Haven has been elected president of the Connecticut Trails Council of the Girl Scouts. Other officers include: Maria Carofano of North Haven, first vice president; Karen Hoffman of Cheshire, second vice president; Milford's Nicole Pollard, third vice president; Phyllis Stroman of South Windsor, secretary; and North Havener Gary Robinson, treasurer.

Roger J. Sciascia, CPA has received the J. Richard Tiano Sterling Award for extraordinary volunteer services from the south-central Connecticut chapter of the American Red Cross. Sciascia is a tax, business valuation and litigation support partner at Weinstein & Anastasio, PC. Sciascia previously held management positions in Big Five and regional accounting firms.
