Edward Dombroskas, executive director of the Connecticut Office of Tourism, has been selected to chair the National Council of State Tourism Directors. The National Council is an association of the tourism directors in the 50 states and the five U.S. territories, a Council of the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA), the non-profit organization that represents all components of the U.S. travel industry. Dombroskas' term began September 1.
As Connecticut's executive director of tourism for the past 11 years, Ed Dombroskas brings to the National Council years of leadership and knowledge which will help position the council and our industry for future growth in a challenging and changing environment, explained Bill Norman, TIA's president and CEO.
As chair of the National Council, Dombroskas will represent the 50 states and five territories in a board-level position at the TIA. He will be working on developing a three-year strategic plan for the National Council of State Tourism Directors and establishing professional development groups within the National Council. Further, since the tragic events of September 11, Dombroskas has been working with national industry and political leaders on plans to foster recovery within the travel sector.
Dombroskas' election recognizes the prominence Connecticut has achieved in national tourism. It provides an opportunity for the state to participate in a leadership role, to set national policy and influence the direction and efforts of the council and TIA.
