And the Pitch…

MILFORD — ProBatter Sports, LLC has earned U.S. Patent No. 6,443,141 for a new video pitching simulator currently used by four Major League clubs and many training centers nationwide. The patent, identified as "Method of Modifying the Release Point of Pitches from a Video Pitching Machine," permits the simulator to adjust the release point of pitches to closely mirror game conditions. The ProBatter system can throw fastballs and various breaking pitches to various locations at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. As the pitcher winds up and goes through his (right- or left-handed) delivery on the video screen, a non-virtual baseball is delivered to the batter through a hole in the screen.
The system is the brainchild of ProBatter’s CEO and principal inventor, the aptly named Greg Battersby of Westport, who is a patent attorney with Grimes & Battersby in Norwalk.
