Time for Twain

Ken Burns' documentary on Mark Twain will air nationwide on PBS stations January 14 and 15. Three years ago, the Connecticut Tourism Council and Office of Tourism identified this project as a unique opportunity to showcase Connecticut to a national and international audience. Approximately $530,000 has been invested by the council and the office to underwrite the film.
Says Nicky McHugh, director of public relations for McLaughlin, DelVecchio & and Casey of New Haven, which works on the tourism account: “Today we are one of the major underwriters of this documentary (after GM). Connecticut will be featured on the closing credits of the film, on the CD, DVD and book. There is also quite a large education initiative, and another really great benefit from our association with this project is that every school district in the state will receive a free video of the film.”
Adds McHugh, “We hope that many people will find out that Connecticut was really important to Twain; that he spent most of his adult life here in Connecticut, and that many people will come to the state to see the house and other wonderful places in the state.”
