Dancing Wheels to Perform at Quinnipiac University Dancing Wheels, one of the countrys premier modern dance companies that integrate stand-up and wheelchair- bound dancers, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5 in the Clarice L. Buckman Theater at Quinnipiac University. Throughout the last two decades, Dancing Wheels has performed, taught and inspired children and adults of all abilities around the world. Through its educational outreach, Dancing Wheels has created an awareness of integrated dance. Event is free and open to the public. Call 203-582-8204.
Sonny Costanzo Concert Series Begins at Quinnipiac University Sam Costanzo, professor of fine arts, languages and philosophy, and his brother, the late jazz trombonist Sonny Costanzo, began the jazz series in 1968 as a festival for college and high school jazz bands from the Northeast to compete and be judged by a panel of jazz musicians. The series ended in 1980 and was revived in 1988 when Sonny Costanzo became Quinnipiacs first artist-in-residence. Leo Boogie & The Romeo Kings will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10 in the Clarice L. Buckman Theater. The concert will feature a mix of merengue, samba and New Orleans jazz. Actress Sandy Duncan to Appear with Fidelio in "Remembering Amy" at Quinnipiac University Sandy Duncan will be the special guest star when Fidelio, Quinnipiac Universitys artists-in-residence, performs the world premiere of "Remembering Amy" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 in the Grand Courtroom of the School of Law Center at Quinnipiac. Amy Beach, born and raised in New England, was Americas foremost pianist and composer. In this performance, Fidelio will view Beach through the eyes of six women, including her mother Clara Cheney; Maud Powell, Americas most foremost violinist; Mary McNamara, Amys housekeeper; Marian MacDowell, pianist, wife of Edward and co-founder of the MacDowell Colony; CPA Ingrid Petersson and Clara, a young admirer. The final vignette is of Amy herself in 1941. Fidelio, co-founded by cellist and artistic director Harry Clark and pianist Sanda Schuldmann, returns for its 10th season as Quinnipiacs artists-in-residence. Fidelio received the Connecticut 2002 Governors Arts Award for distinguished artistic excellence. Event is free and open to the public. Call 203-582-8652.
Sonny Costanzo Concert Series Continues at Quinnipiac University The Fryer/Balaban Swingtet performs Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Clarice L. Buckman Theater. The swinging quartets concert, Pages from the American Songbook celebrates the work of ten famous composers: Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Richard Rogers, Thomas "Fats" Waller and Harry Warren. Best Selling Author on American History to Lecture at Quinnipiac University James Loewen, the best selling author of "Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your High School History Textbook Got Wrong" and Lies Across America: What Our Historic Sites Get Wrong," will deliver a free community lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13 in Alumni Hall at Quinnipiac University. This lecture, sponsored by the Division of Education in the College of Liberal Arts at Quinnipiac, is free and open to the public.
Fidelio to Perform "Song Without Words" at Quinnipiac University Legendary performer Theodore Bikel will perform with Fidelio, Quinnipiac Universitys artists-in-residence, when it presents "Song Without Words," featuring music from Felix Mendelssohn, at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 in the Grand Courtroom of the School of Law Center at Quinnipiac. Folk singer; theater, film and television actor; radio host; president of Actors Equity; political activist; Jewish spokesman, and author are some of the many "careers" to which Bikel can lay claim. U.S. Rep. Nancy Johnson to Speak at Federal Health Policy Conference at Quinnipiac University U.S. Rep. Nancy Johnson will be the keynote speaker at a Federal Health Policy Conference scheduled to take place from 9 a.m-12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 in the Grand Courtroom of the Quinnipiac University School of Law Center. Following Johnsons address, a panel of health policy experts will respond to Johnsons comments and address the issues of the uninsured and Medicare reform. The fee is $25. Green Street Family Series: Hip Hop Dance Workshop with KR3TS Violeta Galagarza Join us as we welcome back Violeta Galagarza, founder of the hip-hop dance group, KR3TS, to teach the latest moves. Galagarza is known for her ability to teach people of all ages and levels of experience. Her repertoire includes not only hip hop, but other exciting dance forms, including merengue, tango, and jazz.
