Don Herzog has been named president of East River Energy of Guilford. The company provides commercial and residential heating and cooling products and services throughout New England. A 1978 graduate of Northwestern University, Herzog joined East River Energy in 1985.
Timothy M. O'Connell has joined OR&L Construction of Branford as project engineer. A graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston with a B.S. in civil engineering, O'Connell will act as engineering and field liaison on commercial construction projects throughout Connecticut.
The Saint Raphael Healthcare System as announced the appointment of three staffers: Christopher O'Connor has been named vice president of clinical operations. He joined Saint Raphael's' in 1991 at a technician in the emergency department, leaving in 1995 to serve as an administrative resident at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, where he also worked as coordinator of emergency medicine operations. He returned to Saint Raphael's in 1997 as administrator of the Graduate Education Fund. O'Conner earned a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in health service administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He will administer the departments of anesthesiology, radiology, pathology the cardiac catheterization and gastroenterology laboratories and development and operation of the cardiovascular and neuroscience institutes. O'Connor will continue to be responsible for the departments of surgery and emergency medicine.
Peter Duffy has been named vice president of facility operations for the Saint Raphael Healthcare System. He will oversee the majority of support functions and continue to oversee the clinical engineering and parking departments as well as construction, plant operations and system-owned real estate. Duffy will also be responsible for safety, facility regulation, security and environmental services. Joining Saint Raphael's in 1993, he has served as construction manager and director of plant, facilities and clinical engineering.
Bridges at Lake Whitney in Hamden has named Jeannie Kluytenaar director of wellness and Maureen F. Shea assistant director of wellness. Kluytenaar, who has 20 years of nursing experience in long-term care and home health care, has a B.S. in nursing from Southern Connecticut State University and was graduated from the Hospital of Saint Raphael School of Nursing. She will provide and supervise all personal and health care services to residents. Shea, who has ten years of experience in geriatric and psychiatric nursing, has an associate's degree in nursing from Quinnipiac University and a B.S. in early childhood education from Southern Connecticut State University.
Sr. Joan Granville has been named president of the Saint Raphael Foundation and vice president for mission services for the Saint Raphael Healthcare System. Granville, who succeeds recently retired Sr. Anne Virginie Grimes, will be responsible for overseeing the Foundation's philanthropic efforts. Joining Saint Raphael's in 1999 as executive assistant to the hospital's executive vice president, she was appointed assistant to the president in 2000. Serving on the board of trustees from 1988 to 1996, she has 25 years of experience in the health-care field as a hospital administrator and health-care entrepreneur. She previously served as vice president of community initiatives and mission effectiveness for Mercy Health Center in Manhattan, Kan., vice president of community initiatives for Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Elizabeth, N.J. and vice president of clinical services for Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y.
Traub & Co. of New Haven has named John Keogh senior broker. Keogh spent ten years with William Pitt Commercial Real Estate and in 1994 became an independent broker, based in Norwalk. He holds a B.A. from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash.
Bernadette Holodak has been appointed special-projects coordinator for Marrakech of Woodbridge. Responsible for development and activities including special events and fundraising, she previously was vice president of finance for a consumer products catalog company. She also served as the director of the International Center in New Haven. The organization also announced the election of Moshe Sieve as president of Marrakech. Other officers elected include: Merton G. Gollaher, vice president; D. Edward Mas, secretary; and Theresa M. Velleca, treasurer. New board members include Peter Bianchi, Miriam Glenn and Sheila E. Masterson.
Bill Mack has been named vice president at Miller-Johnson, a Meriden printing and graphic communications firm. Mack will be in charge of the company's marketing, sales management and direct account supervision. Mack previously served as president of the William J. Mack Co. of North Haven, which had been in business for 38 years until recently ceasing operations. The company is being liquidated for the benefit of creditors. He serves on the board of directors of the Printing Industry of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.
Stephanie Marks has joined the New Haven marketing, advertising and public relations firm of McLaughlin, DelVecchio & Casey as assistant account executive in the public relations department. Marks will support the state Office of Tourism account team and service the company's business-to-business technology and financial-service accounts. She is a recent graduate of Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. with a degree in communications-public relations.
The New Haven Ninjas have selected Arena football veteran Rick Buffington as the arenafootball2 team's first head coach and manager. Buffington has 13 years of AFL and 30 years of football experience. He served in numerous capacities in the AFL, NFL and the former United States Football League (USFL). He has helmed four Arena football franchises including the Florida Bobcats, Charlotte Rage, Connecticut Coyotes and Albany Firebirds. Prior to his AFL tenure, the 1987 inductee in the Minor-Pro Football Hall of Fame served as a scout and assistant coach with the New York Jets and the New England Patriots before working in various capacities for the New Jersey Generals and the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL.
Kevin D. Seabrook has been named assistant controller of the Owens, Renz & Lee Co. of Branford. Seabrook, who works with the real estate brokerage and property management divisions of the company, has been with the firm for four years.
Arati Hammond has been named residential sales agent for Calcagni Associates Real Estate. She has been assigned to the firm's Cheshire office. Hammond holds a degree in electronics engineering from Girls Polytechnic in Gujarat University, India. For the last ten years she has worked in sales in the Cheshire area.
Rudy Sorrentino has joined OR&L Co. as corporate controller. He will provide accounting management for the company's real estate and property management divisions. Sorrentino was previously controller for the Turner Construction Corp.
