NEW HAVEN The Hospital of Saint Raphael has been named as one of "Americas Best Hospitals" for neurology and neurosurgery treatments, as well as for ear, nose and throat care, by U.S. News & World Report. More than 6,000 hospitals nationwide were evaluated for this annual ranking; Saint Raphaels was the only Connecticut hospital recognized for neurosurgery and neurology.
According to the hospital, Saint Raphael neurosurgeons and neurologists perform a full range of the most sophisticated procedures used today, including emergency acute stroke therapy to dissolve blood clots and interventional neuroradiology techniques to treat cerebral aneurysms. The hospital has hosted several mobile neurospine surgery training programs, which have attracted surgeons from across the nation. It is also one of the few Connecticut hospitals to offer stereotactic radiosurgery a state-of-the-art and highly precise laser treatment that allows doctors to direct thin beams of radiation, from multiple angles, directly onto brain tumor sites.
Saint Raphael ear, nose and throat specialists offer a full range of ENT procedures, from routine tonsillectomies to advanced endoscopic sinus surgery, head and neck oncology and skull-based tumors. Staff members include K.J. Lee, M.D., author of one of the mostly widely used otolaryngology textbooks and past president of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, and Eiji Yanagisawa, M.D., who has pioneered numerous ENT procedures.
