GE Inks $600M Deal

FAIRFIELD Leading jet engine-maker General Electric has won a maintenance contract from discount air carrier AirTran Airways Inc. valued at $600 million over 15 years. In July, AirTrans parent, AirTran Holdings Inc., ordered 50 Boeing 737s with CFM56 engines made by CFM International, a joint venture of GE Aircraft Engines and Snecma SA of France. The work will be performed at a facility near Arkansas City, Kan., according to GE. Based in Evendale, O., GE Aircraft Engines derives about half of its annual revenue from long-term contracts to service and repair aircraft engines.
