NEW YORK - The trend of declining IT spending that companies have seen in the last couple of years may be changing, according to the findings of the annual Software Spending Survey of 96 insurance carriers, agents and brokers conducted by Insurance Networking News (INN).
Insurance carriers, agents and brokers are budgeting to spend about 14 percent more on packaged applications and software development in 2003 than they spent last year, says the survey.
While many insurance carriers are planning to increase software spending in the second half of 2003, they are also being cautious. Companies are spending less on packaged software and investing more in customized software developed in-house. This year, companies are scheduling to invest about $3.2 million on internal software development. The top five development initiatives of carriers and brokers are: agency management, policy administration, documenting workflow management, financial reporting and business-to-business e-commerce, according to the survey.
