HAMDEN The Quinnipiac University School of Law will present its Raymond E. Baldwin Award for Public Service to Attorney General Richard Blumenthal on October 9 at the Omni Hotel in New Haven. Says QU law school Dean Brad Saxton: "We are pleased to be able to honor Dick Blumenthal with this years Raymond E. Baldwin Public Service Award. Dick has given tremendous service to the people of Connecticut, and his career has epitomized the commitment to public service that we celebrate with this award."
The Quinnipiac School of Law established the Baldwin award 22 years ago to recognize citizens who have advanced the public interest in their careers. Blumenthal joins a list of Baldwin Award recipients that includes U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day OConnor, U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd, Gov. John G. Rowland, Henry Lee, Sargent Shriver and former Connecticut governors John Davis Lodge, Abraham Ribicoff, Thomas J. Meskill and Lowell P. Weicker.
Blumenthal has served as Connecticuts 23rd attorney general since 1991. He has been an advocate for consumers, the environment, children and the civil rights of Connecticut citizens. Among his accomplishments, he halted the hostile takeover of New Britain-based Stanley Works, resisted utility rate increases, stopped chronic polluters and protected consumers from misuse of their charitable donations. He has also carved a national reputation as a leader in the fight against the tobacco industry.
