ANSONIA The former Latex Foam Products tract is up for grabs again after Orange developer Gary Richetelli pulled out of a deal to develop a multi-use project on the 10.5-acre site.
In June Richetelli entered into a tentative agreement to buy the West Main Street site for about $1.2 million, but apparently has been unable attract enough tenants, Ansonia city officials said in published reports.
Mayor Jim Della Volpe told the Connecticut Post that "several" other developers are interested in the property, and he is planning a meeting with the interested parties. "Wed still like a public-private venture with at least an acre set aside for a town green where we can hold events," Della Volpe added.
The property has been vacant since a May 2001 blaze leveled the Latex Foam facility. The fire left 250 workers jobless and the city without its top taxpayer. Latex Foam has since moved to Shelton, and rehired a number of those workers.
