I take offense at a comment made in the recent editorial regarding Barrie Ltd. Bootery going out of business due to Yale's demand of a 70-percent rent increase and maximum five-year lease (BNH, September 30).
Evidently the market and the foot traffic in that area warrant increased commercial rents, but for the writer to state that the Yale student clientele is "less white" in the same breath that it states the retail landscape has changed (presumably negatively), is truly offensive.
You should know that less white consumers provide a multi-million-dollar retail base to draw from; whether the goods provided by this particular business meet the needs of the changing student body is another question.
Perhaps in the future, you can be more conscientious about the blatantly offensive remarks being published.
