| NEW HAVEN - A group headed by a Scarsdale, N.Y. investment banker may bring a short-season independent minor-league baseball team to Yale Field for the 2004 season. Rick Handelman is one of the owners of the Berkshire Blacks Bears, which averaged less than 1,000 fans per game in 2003 in an old ball park in Pittsfield, Mass. Northeast League teams play 46-game home schedules from late May to late August. With in excess of 6,000 seats, Yale Field - which became available last month after the AA Eastern League New Haven Ravens relocated to Manchester, N.H. after ten seasons here to play in a promised new stadium - would be the largest facility in the Northeast League. Last season the Northeast League had teams in markets including Brockton, Mass., Montclair, New Jersey, Elmira, N.Y. and Allentown, Pa.
