Daniel DeBarba has been appointed director of budget and financial planning for the Yale-New Haven Health System. He will manage the development of annual operating and capital budgets, financial forecasts and projections and business plans for Yale-New Haven, Bridgeport and Greenwich hospitals. DeBarba was the director of finance at Bridgeport Hospital & Healthcare Services from 2000-03.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven has named Jack Gold director of development. He is responsible for corporate, foundation and individual fundraising. Most recently Gold served as director of foundation and corporate relations at Yale's Environment School. He is a director and secretary of the New Haven Colony Historical Society.
Michael T. Tucker, professor of finance in the Charles F. Dolan School of Business at Fairfield University, has been selected a winner in the Academic Journal category of the Certified Financial Planner Board's 2003 Article Awards. The award is for his article, "Partial Privatization of Social Security: A Simulation of Possible Outcomes and Risks to Workers," published in Financial Services Review, Vol. 11, No. 4, Winter 2002. Tucker specializes in corporate finance, investments and environmental issues and business.
Nancy Funct Spector, R.N. has joined the Legal Affairs/Risk Management Department at Yale-New Haven Hospital as a nurse risk specialist. Her responsibilities include investigation and reporting of adverse events and assistance with patient safety and quality improvement activities. Funct Spector was a risk manager at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York for 12 years. She earned her B.S. in nursing from Boston University.
Fletcher-Thompson has named Charles Cassidy director of planning for specialized educational facilities. He served as administrator of the state's inter-district magnet schools and inter-district cooperative grant programs. Cassidy is responsible for nationwide consulting services in the development, implementation and funding of magnet, charter and specialized schools.
Trumbull resident Ed Wilkes has been appointed executive dean of law school enrollment services at the Quinnipiac University School of Law. He will manage the admissions and financial aid staff. Wilkes worked for six years at Fairfield University as associate academic vice president for enrollment management.
Roman Sivion has been appointed program administrator for QU Online, Quinnipiac University's Web-based distance-learning program. He will be responsible for managing courses that professors teach online. Sivion worked at CuraGen Corp. for five years in the information technology department.
Walter C. Morgan has joined Integrated Loan Service (ILS) as executive vice president of strategic business development. He will develop strategic partnerships and new business for ILS and Fiserv's Lending Services and Solutions Group. Morgan was formerly with Fidelity National Information Solutions and Market Intelligence.
Albertus Magnus College (AMC) has appointed Michael T. Geary to head its new criminal justice program. He is a lawyer and former New York City police officer. Geary joins AMC as assistant professor of criminal justice and coordinator of the program. He earned his law degree from Pace University.
Two Yale-New Haven Hospital nurses were honored as notable Women of Color in Health, Science & Technology in Nashville, Tenn. Ena Williams, R.N. is patient service manager of perioperative services. She is responsible for 37 operating rooms and oversees more than 250 employees. Marcelle Williams, R.N. is patient service manager of the infant-toddler/pediatric respiratory-care unit. She manages more than 70 staff members in a 15-bed general medical-surgical unit as well as a six-bed unit for respirator-dependent children.
Quinnipiac University's (QU) Center for Excellence in Teaching (EIT) and Excellence in Service to Students (ESTS) honored three professors for distinguished teaching and three staff member for exceptional service. The EIT Award recipients are Crystal Brian, associate professor of theater; Mary Ferrari, associate professor of law; and Xiaohong He, chairwoman of the international business department. The ESTS Award recipients are David Hall, accounting secretary; and Phillip Carolla and Vincent Romano, custodians. QU faculty, staff and students nominated the recipients.
William Lytle has joined the Connecticut State Technology Extension Program (ConnSTEP) as a consultant to support minority-manufacturing companies. He will assist ConnSTEP and the Manufacturing Supply Chain Consortium in helping manufacturers enter or accelerate their participation in the defense supply chain. Lytle has owned and managed three small manufacturing companies in the state and has 30 years of industry experience.
People's Bank announced that Brenda Brinz VanDeWeghe has joined the bank's Wealth Management & Trust Division as vice president responsible for business development in upper Fairfield County. VanDeWeghe previously worked as vice president and managed the trust and investment sales for New Haven Savings Bank.
Steve Fannelli has joined the Carmen Anthony Restaurant Group as manager of its Carmen Anthony Fishhouse in Avon. Fannelli was manager and wine steward at Carbone's Restaurant of Hartford for ten years.
Mark Levine has joined William Orange Realty as a real estate agent. His involvement in community service and public office include the Natural Heritage Open Space Watershed Acquisition Review Board for the state and the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority Land Use Committee.
Charlene Blanchette-Raube has joined Calcagni Associates as residential sales associate in Cheshire. She has more than ten years of customer service/sales experience and more than seven years of marketing experience.
