NEW HAVEN - The Hospital of Saint Raphael has been selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of New England's Best Workplaces for Commuters. The hospital's commitment to reducing traffic and air pollution and improving quality of life for commuters has earned it a place on the list.
The list is compiled by the New England Best Workplaces for Commuters Coalition, which includes the Patriot chapter of the Association for Commuter Transportation, the New England Council, Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM), and the Northeast Business Environment Network. Saint Raphael's is one of 83 New England employers to receive the designation by meeting a national standard of excellence that includes offering employees at least one primary benefit such as employer-provided transit passes or vanpool subsidies.
Saint Raphael's offers tax-free payroll deduction programs for mass-transit riders as well as those who drive to work. Bus passes are offered at a subsidized rate. The hospital also provides free shuttle service for its employees from the hospital to Union Station for rail service, as well as for employees who park in nearby off-campus locations. Bike racks are available in the parking garage for those employees who ride bikes to work.
