Business New Haven

Business New Haven has made it to the ripe old age of ten. Who would have thunk it?
When we began our company in 1993, the Connecticut economy could very generously be described as being in the toilet. Advertising revenues were down across all media, and New Haven's corporate base was shrinking as a consequence of mergers and company relocations. Not a pretty picture.
But we had confidence that New Haven's, and Connecticut's, outlook would improve, and it did. We are proud to have a part of that improvement.
Even as we celebrate our own modest milestone, in this issue we commemorate the even more impressive milestones of our companion New Haven-area companies - a number of which have been plying their trade in and around the Elm City since the earliest days of the nation.
Not all or even most companies endure over a period of decades or even centuries. Business conditions continuously evolve. Business owners pass away, and sometimes there's no one to take their place at the helm.
Longevity doesn't just happen. It requires energy, commitment, brains and pluck to stick around in a cutthroat business environment. We salute the companies that have accomplished so much, and helped to make the greater New Haven business climate so rich in ingenuity and innovation.
Many of these companies are family-owned, reminding us that family business have been and remain the bedrock of the business landscape. They provide jobs for their neighbors and friends, and without them the wheels of commerce would grind to a halt.
They deserve our admiration - and our support.
