TelPro Associates 2679 Whitney Avenue Hamden, CT 06518 Tel: 203-407-8855 Fax: 203-407-1088 Web: www.telproassociates.com Ownership: Nancy Wickett and Carolyn Cary Milestone: 10 years
Timeline: A wise person once said, "The only thing that is constant is change." Technology continuously advances and can either leave some companies stranded on a desert island, or content in a paradise of prosperity. For ten years Carolyn Cary and Nancy Wickett have been in this paradise because of their never changing work ethics that always move with the rapidly steam-rolling technology of today. In 1993, TelPro Associates, the successful telecommunications company that specializes in resolving their clients' day-to-day problems by providing cost-sufficient solutions, was started by Cary and Wickett after their former employer, Security Link, subdued to Chapter 11.
Achievements and Accomplishments: TelPro has helped more than 100 companies, towns and school districts in the course of its decade in business. The company typically is working with up to 20 accounts at a time. TelPro's staff, which Wickett and Cary describe in unison as "fabulous," works to identify the most cost-effective telecom solutions for their clients.
Looking Back on a Changing Industry: Cary and Wickett keep abreast of technological advances by going to "webinars," reading journals, exploring the latest IP (Internet Protocol), or the newest hardware. Ten years ago the Internet was merely a toddler. Today it accounts for half of TelPro's business.
"We change with the times so that we can complete tasks that at one point took us five days and now take five minutes," says Cary. "What will not change are the objectivity and ethics of our company. Times will change. Who we are will not."
The pair's working relationship, which they described as a "marriage," survives on trust and good, old-fashioned hard work. Asked what principles most aptly define their approach to their business, Cary and Wickett say:
1. Anticipate what's next. Make the changing times your friend, not your enemy. 2. 3. Be not afraid, but be interested in the future. What technology gives, the business owner should gladly accept. 4. 3. Be loyal to and responsible with your client base.
Cary and Wickett employed these principles when they started TelPro ten years ago, and they continue to hold the pair in good stead.
