EAST LYME - A local builder has built and sold a house to benefit Water for People, a national non-profit that provides funds and expertise for projects that bring sustainable drinking water to people in poor regions of the world. The house that Ben Orvedal built was completed and sold on December 4. A profit of $25,000 from the sale of the house on Gooseberry Lane in East Lyme's Chapman Woods senior community will be donated to Water for People. Besides Overdal's donation, various contractors, suppliers and other professionals (such as Bellavance Trucking & Excavating of Plainfield and Sason Kitchen Cabinet & Stair of New Britain) contributed time and money to the project.
Orvedal traveled in 2002 with a group from Water For People to Guatemala to see firsthand what a difference running water can do for a community and its people. And now he's done something about it.
