HARTFORD - Glastonbury physician J. Robert Galvin began his term as the state's commissioner of the Department of Public Health (DPH) on December 1. A retired U.S. Army brigadier general, the 65-year-old Galvin is an attending physician at Hartford Hospital as well as an assistant clinical professor of family practice medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. A flight surgeon in the Army, Galvin earned a Bronze Star and Army Commendation medal for his service during the Vietnam War. He hold a medical degree from Tufts and also earned a master's in public health from UConn.
