In its November issue, Self magazine ranked the New Haven-Meriden metro area tops among healthful places for women in its annual "America's Healthiest Cities for Women" survey. The Condé Nast publication used data from government agencies including the American Hospital Association, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and surveyed 500 readers to identify and rank the healthiest metro areas for women. In identifying New Haven-Meriden as No. 1, the magazine cited the "top-rated" health-care professionals at Yale-New Haven Hospital, according to a YNHH press release. Hospital officials point to HealthLink, YNHH's electronic newsletter, a series of fact sheets called "Making the Right Choice" and its award-winning informational campaign on women and heart disease, known as "Women's Heart Advantage," as among its contributions to the health of area females.
